Websites: E-book formats There are several e-book formats – the most common (roughly in order of importance) being:
PDF – for reading on a PC using Adobe PDF Reader or Adobe Digital Editions, or for printing out
Mobi – used for Kindle devices and apps
Epub – the industry standard, used for Apple iPad and iBooks, Nook, Sony Reader, Kobo, and most e-reading apps including Adobe Digital Editions, Stanza, Aldiko, and a host of others
LRF – used only for older Sony Readers that don't support Epub
RTF – readable on most word processors
Palm Doc (PDB) – for Palm reading devices
HTML – for sampling in a web browser.
Thorn Island can have your book converted simultaneously into all these formats and then uploaded and distributed to all major e-book stores – giving you the widest possible reach for your e-book. |

About e-books
An e-book is a book that can be read on a special e-reading device such as a Kindle Reader (from Amazon), an Apple iPad or iBook, a Nook, Sony Reader, Kobo and many other e-readers,
Prices for reading devices begin at about US$70 (for an Amazon Kindle) and can run up to US$500 or more for Apple products.
E-books can also be read on-line, on a computer or laptop using software programs, called apps, such as Stanza, Aldiko, Adobe Digital Editions, and so on.
E-books are created in a variety of formats (see the left-hand column). To read an e-book you need either a particular device or the reader software (app) for the particular format.
Apps enable you to read the book on your PC, laptop, Smartphone, etc. They are FREE and downloading them is simple and quick (see below).
